DUTCH OPEN AEROBIC GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Great Britain dominated the Individual Women’s competition in Holland:

Katie Cannon, from Heathrow, stormed ahead of the field with a score of 18.65, to take the Dutch Open Champion title. This amazing achievement was last claimed for Britain back in 1998 by Natalia Ilienko-Jarvis, Heathrow’s very own coach – so it proved a very special moment for Katie, Natalia and the Club.

Success didn’t stop there: Katie Cannon went on to win the Dutch Open Senior Group Champions’ title too with team mates Ria Cousins, Katie Richards, Lorraine Shortland, Kerry Scotts and Lauren Barton, all from Heathrow.

Lauren, Kerry and Ria had to work even harder in the Senior Trio section, which was fiercely fought. They can be proud runners up, with 16.30, just 0.15 separating them from the title winners.

GB had four representatives in the 15-17 Individual Women’s section, three of whom were from Heathrow. Stephanie Fois took the Bronze medal with 17.25, 0.6 off the leader; Chelsey Dixon came sixth with 16.65 and Kirsty Banfield was eleventh with 15.55.

Stephanie and Chelsey then teamed up with Rachel Murphy in the 15-17 trio event and claimed the Champions title, beating the Austrian and Slovakian trios by over a whole mark with 16.65. GB’s other team, Kirsty, Jacqui Bamforth and Siana Shipley, all also from Heathrow, just missed out on the medals in fourth place with 14.65.

Vicki Chagger, performed a great routine in the 12-14 section scoring a brilliant 16.35, which secured her sixth place for GB in one of the biggest fields of European competitors.

Gary Jarvis and Natalia Ilienko-Jarvis Personal coaches said they where thrilled with the teams performance and results. Gary was selected as GB Head of Delegation and GB national coach along with Natalia representing GB as the team Brevet International Judge and judged Difficulty.
