1999 World ChampionshipsHeathrow athletes compete with world's best.
Five sports aerobics athletes from the Heathrow sports aerobics club have just returned from the 5th world sports aerobics championships held in Hanover, Germany. Heathrow had five athletes in the seven strong GBsquad. Natalia Ilienko-Jarvis and Joanne Stevens competed in the individual female section, the largest in the competition with 44 participants. Overall there were representatives from around 30 different countries at the championships. Competition was tough as the standard in all categories was extremely high.
Natalia had the unenviable task of being the second person up on the stage to compete in the womens event. She performed well to achieve 33rd position overall. Joanne finished in 23rd position overall.
The Heathrow team also had a trio representing Great Britain in the championships. Kelly Snape, Anoushka Mistry and Sarah Needham have only been training together since november last year. They performed brilliantly to achieve 14th position overall, only a few places away from gaining a place in the finals.
