1999 French Open ChampionshipsKerry Scotts wins first ever junior gold at an international sports aerobics competition.
Heathrow continue golden tradition.
Athletes from the Heathrow sports aerobics team were busy over the last bank holiday weekend - representing Great Britain in the French open sports aerobics championships.
This event brought together athletes from 12 European countries over two days of competition in the French city of lyon. The Palais de Sports provided the backdrop to this major event watched by a crowd of over 2000. Many of the worlds best were present as they used the competition as a crucial warm up event for the upcoming world aerobics championships next month.
The Heathrow team had three female individual competitors in the senior category and one in the junior section.
Kerry Scotts outshone all the opposition in the junior category to take the gold medal by over two clear points. She beat off opposition from France, Germany and Belorussia with a superb routine to take the gold and her first international title. Kerry is a member of the Great Britain junior national squad and current u18 junior british champion.
In the senior section Leanne Gibson competed her new routine for the first time to a packed audience. She worked well against strong international opposition to gain 28th place. Leanne will also be competing at the junior world NAC sports aerobics championships to be held in Las Vegas, USA in July.
Joanne Stevens performed a strong routine to gain 16th place and was just behind her Heathrow team-mate and coach Natalia Ilienko-Jarvis.
Natalia qualified for the final on the second day of competition and performed well to move up two placings from the previous qualifying round to finish in 8th position overall. Both Joanne and Natalia will be representing Great Britain in the world sports aerobics championships to be held in Hannover, Germany next month.
Coach Gary Jarvis was delighted with the athlete's efforts and looks forward to continued success both here and abroad for the teams athletes.
