THE WELSH OPEN AND CLOSED SPORTS AEROBICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2000. The Welsh Open and Closed Sports Aerobics Championships have been running
for the last 3 years and are held in the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.
Interest has been growing from year to year with over 80 competitors taking
part in September this year. Heathrow sent a team of its younger members
to compete in the Fig code; the results are as follows: Female Individual - U 12's Christine Adams who took fourth place with a score of 13.25 represented Heathrow here. Male individual - U12's Here Heathrow's sole male competitor Joseph Denton again performed an energetic routine to secure the Gold with a score of 13.15. Female Individual - U14's In this large group of competitors, Charlotte Walcott the current British Champion wooed the crowd with her very difficult routine which secured her the Gold medal with the highest score of the day in fig. Code 15.45. Sarah Yusufu took the Silver medal scoring 14.20 and Chelsey Dixon took the Bronze medal with a score of 13.60. Katie Hobbs came 8th with a score of 12.60 Female Individual - U16's Katie Hopkins performed a great routine to come 6th place in this group with a score of 12.15. Female Individual - U18's Joanne Griffin who has only performed this new routine once before in the Alex Strachan Cup and took the Gold with a score of 14.08 and finished 1.58 points ahead of the silver medallist. National Aerobic Code Pairs In this section of the competition Heathrow was represented by Nina Craig and Sarah Muggeridge who showed good synchronization in their routine to take the Gold medal with a score of 15.75. A brilliant result for the athletes and a reward for all their hard work.
