Second World Series Competition
April 28/29th - Halle, Germany
From April 28th-29th the German town of Halle played host to the second World Series competition in Sports Aerobics. Two Heathrow athletes represented Great Britain in this competition. They were Joanne Stevens and Kerry Scotts. Joanne is current senior British champion and Kerry is the British u18 champion. Both these athletes were in action two weeks previous to this event at the First World series event in France. Here Joanne came 9th and Kerry won the Gold medal in the senior section of the French Open competition. Their coaches Gary Jarvis and Natalia Ilienko-Jarvis accompanied the girls on this trip.
The competition was an extremely tough one with practically all the world's top female sports aerobics athletes present. Joanne was first up for the British team and performed a good routine with no major errors. She scored 14.35 and took 10th place overall. Kerry was on the stage moments later and also performed a routine free from major errors scoring 14.20, just a whisker behind her teammate finishing in 11th place. The top eight athletes progress to the finals the next day so the girls just missed out on the competition the next day. The Romanian Izabela Lacatus, who was second at the 1999 European Championships, won the event.
Coaches Gary and Natalia were very pleased with the efforts and results
of the girls against some of the world's best female sports aerobics athletes.
The third world series event is to be held in Romania in November and
the Heathrow athletes plan to represent Great Britain again at this event.
