2008,
10th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Announced by the FIG!
FIG Office, April 8, 2007: The 10th Aerobic Gymnastics
World Championships 2008 will be held April 26 - 27 in Ulm (GER). This
was decided at a working meeting held recently in Stuttgart with the FIG
and the Deutscher Turner Bund. The worlds will be preceded by a third
edition of the international Age Group Competition, the finals for which
will be held April 23 - 25.
Piloted by the DTB, the event received the partnership of energy manufacturer
EnBW, also involved in the 2007 Artistic worlds in Stuttgart. The support
offered by this energetic group was a determining factor in the German
Gymnastic Federation's decision, which intends to spin a publicity concept
around health and well-being for these world championships, and to which
additional activities such as symposiums or seminars might be grafted.
Aerobic Gymnastics is continually growing and increasing its ranks by
recruiting additional participating countries each year. The first worlds
organised under the FIG banner in 1995 at the Coubertin Stadium in Paris
(FRA) welcomed 33 federations. Last year, the 9th edition in Nanjing (CHN)
counted the same number of federations. This number strikes the discipline's
Technical President, British John Atkinson, who calls on the FIG's 129
affiliated federation to create and develop aerobics within their borders
and to participate massively in official competitions.
